What a spectacular time of year, not only for the food, family, and cheer, but also because it means we get to crown another winner of our Hear for the Holidays competition.
This is now our fourth installment, and each year keeps getting better. We received more nominations this year, and each one was carefully thought out.
We love to see this from our community – people helping people.
We started this competition to raise awareness of hearing loss and help those who need it most. This year, we have found another well-deserving winner.
With so many amazing people residing in our area, deciding whom to choose was very difficult.
Despite there only being one winner, we are committed to helping everyone who was nominated. We are experienced in finding ways to help all levels of hearing loss within each individual’s budget.
This campaign has been a great way to open the lines of communication and invite families to start taking hearing loss seriously.
No one embodies that better than our latest winner.
The Winner Is…
Without further delay, our 2022 Hear for the Holidays contest winner is Don Bradley.
We received his nomination from his wife, and it was spectacular. We were all very moved after reading it.
To deliver the good news, I surprised Don at his work. This was the best part of the contest because I got to see how happy Don was in person. I brought balloons and cookies to celebrate, and his wife was able to join in the fun as well.
I introduced Don to Dr. Garrido, who will be doing the fitting for him. Hearing aids are only as good as the custom settings, so this part of the process is crucial. Dr. Garrido is one of the best, and she is happy to be involved in such a worthwhile cause.
As expected, Don was elated; we could tell by how speechless he was.
Although Don is very deserving and appreciative, none of this would be possible without the glowing nomination that his wife wrote about him.
About the Nomination
Perhaps the most unique part of this campaign is the nomination process. We know how hard it is for those with a hearing loss to seek help themselves.
This event is meant to get help to those who are reluctant but in dire need. An outstanding nomination goes a long way; not many are as good as the one we received from Don’s wife. Here’s a short snippet of what she wrote:
“I believe my husband, Don Bradley, is deserving of the gift of hearing for many reasons.
One of Don’s greatest qualities is his servant’s heart and willingness to help others. He demonstrated this well throughout his career at the Lake Charles Police Department, through his interactions with the public and how he helped fellow officers in times of need.
You see, Don also did carpentry work on his days off to supplement our income and to make ends meet. However, I remember countless times when officers needed work done at their homes; Don would barely charge them, if he charged them at all, because it gave him joy to be able to bless them.
Don was also a member of the SWAT Team, which required many hours of firearms/explosives training and is what, I believe, contributed significantly to his hearing loss.
Throughout his career, Don was always highly regarded and respected by his fellow officers and impacted the lives of numerous others through his acts of service. After taking only one month off after his retirement, Don went to work for Lake Charles Toyota as their building and maintenance supervisor.
I have encouraged him to check into getting a hearing aid on several occasions in the past couple of years, but he put it off, saying the cost is too much and that he’ll be fine. I know winning this hearing service gift would not only take away any excuse he’s had, but it would also bring a welcomed improvement to his overall quality of life.”
We Couldn’t Do It without You
Based on this year’s success, we see no reason to slow down. We love the response we are getting and how much people are loving this contest.
Hearing loss is not an easy condition to deal with. It creeps up slowly, and many feel embarrassed they did not address the problem when it first arose. We need to stop people from thinking this way. It’s never too late to address your hearing.
We want to thank all the nominees and those who were nominated. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to make the sort of impact we’ve been able to make on our community in the fight against hearing loss.
We hope to hear from you all, and even more in 11 months from now, when we will begin preparing for our fifth version of Hear for the Holidays.
