In fact, we’re the only health care professionals out there trained to cover all aspects of your hearing health care. There are other services available that seem to be offering hearing health care, but they simply don’t offer the high standard, comprehensive level of service that a Doctor of Audiology does. With that in mind, it’s good to be picky about where you choose to go to for help with your hearing.
Who is most qualified to help?
Don’t let your hearing health suffer by booking an appointment with anyone other than an Audiologist. A “Hearing Instrument Specialist”, or “Hearing Aid Dispenser” exists to provide hearing aids, which is great when you have a proper diagnosis and treatment plan to match, but not as a stand-alone service. As Audiologists, we work with Hearing Instrument Specialists to make sure you get comprehensive help with your hearing aids.
However, at no point would we ask our Hearing Instrument Specialist to diagnose problems with your hearing. Why? Because they’re trained to fit hearing aids, service them and program them, but not to diagnose problems with your hearing health.
An Audiologist knows every aspect of hearing health and which treatments to prescribe. If you have a problem with your hearing, it’s an Audiologist you need to turn to.
The key is in the training
Audiologists train for years before they become a qualified doctor. This includes 4 years worth of training during their medical degree, 350 hours or more of patient care, and 12 months of supervised practical training.
